Literacy and Essential Skills
Literacy skills are important for learning, work, and day to day life. Struggles in reading, writing, numeracy and oral communication can be very frustrating and hard to overcome. We offer programs to assist with child, adult and workplace literacy. We offer a variety of Literacy and Essential skills based programs for all ages to reach personal and employment goals.
Children Literacy [ Top ] It is very difficult to watch a child struggle with reading, writing and numeracy or all of the above. We want to provide a fun learning environment for children to overcome their struggles at their own pace. We provide one-on-one tutoring and a variety of literacy programs to support children's literacy development. Children's Tutoring Program
We provide one-on-one tutoring for children and can focus on specific subjects of difficulty. We support the 21st century learner by teaching students basic or advanced computer skills. We provide support for students who are challenged by learning disabilities. We are supporters of the Peterborough Learning Disabilities Association of Peterborough (LDAP). The LDAP provides tutoring session in our TEACH Centre weekly. Call to inquire about the LDAP tutoring program.
Children's Literacy Camp: Grade 1 preparation & Review:
The program is offered every Tuesday and Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. The program helps children prepare for Grade 1 and helps former grade 1 students continue with their reading, writing and numeracy development.

Adult Literacy [ Top ] It is harder to learn essential skills in life as we grow older and it can become very frustrated to find employment without literacy skills. Some of your struggles may include day to day tasks or struggling for employment. We offer Adult and Youth literacy programs to provide individualized assistance for those who are looking to improve their essential literacy skills. TEACH Centre has joined forces with Lovesick Lake Native Women’s Association to develop and implement a youth and adult literacy program for Havelock. The goal of this program is to provide individualized assistance to those people who are looking to improve their essential literacy skills.
Workplace Literacy [ Top ] Each workplace has specific requirements they could ask of you when applying. It could be a requirement for reading, document use or numeracy. If you aren’t comfortable with your current knowledge of a specific skill, but need it to succeed in a chosen career, we can help!
